(I know I just posted this in shay's "diet coke with lime" thread, but then I realized... it is SO good, it really deserves a thread of it's own!!)

Re: yerba maté
Tue, August 8, 2006 - 9:51 AMyerba... dreadful stuff! Blech! Pa-tooie!
But it does get you high, that's for sure. There's a couple bags available now that are flavored that are less harsh tasting. I had a lemon infused one that was pretty good, kinda like that old dieter's standby hot water with lemon... but with a kick.
The buzz, (it's kind of a hippie drink) it's somewhere between coffee and tea... like tea in that it's more "alerty" and longer-lasting, but more like coffee's caffeine in intensity... you can definitely drink 5 cups and get the sweaty shakes.
The good bit about it being nasty, you get to add sugar to cover that up... yay for easily-converted sucrose... zoooom.

Sat, August 12, 2006 - 1:14 PMohh yeah.....
I should have mentioned that in my first post...
yerba mate is definitely an "acquired taste"
I've actually grown to like the flavor, but it's not that wonderful the first time you taste it...

I have had and DO enjoy Yerba Mate that is prepared/served the tradition South American-Peruvian/Argentinian way! It is veryyyyy tasty!
I DO not enjoy the Yerba Mate soda that comes in a gold colored can...blech! I treid it one time when I had lunch at a local Cuban Restaurant....ugh! it reminded me of that crappy Red Bull stuff! :)

Re: lavender white chocolate
Thu, September 27, 2007 - 11:35 PMI'll have to try that to know for sure, but it sounds like it will remind me too much of my grandmother's potpourri. We just mostly don't like anything that messes (sorry for my egocentric choice of words) with the real flavor of the yerba. You know.. it's like with tea; they wouldn't use the best tea for the flavored teas would they? Or to say it another way; they use the worst tea for the flavored varieties.... There I go again. We've got our favorite Playadito brand back and so are drinking a ton of yerba right now and loving it!
By the way... the coke and coffee is what they call a black Russian--just Kahlua and vodka does it and it' s not bad. -

Sat, September 29, 2007 - 12:49 PMI tried the mate but never developed a taste for it. It did grow on me a bit but I will stick with a good roast from stumptown.

Unsu...
Re: yerba maté
Mon, November 19, 2007 - 6:23 AMI tried it. The maté in teabags from Trader Joe's was more than ok, the "fresh" maté was just disgusting to me. I liked the different rush of energy though.
Anyway, where is my coffee?!
